IN718 is composed of nickel, chromium, molybdenum, niobium, and iron, with small amounts of other elements such as titanium and aluminum. The addition of niobium results in the formation of niobium carbides and nitrides, which improve the alloy's strength and durability at high temperatures.

IN718 can withstand temperatures up to 1300°C and has excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion, thereby making it suitable for use in tough circumstances. The alloy can be processed through various methods, including casting, forging, and machining, and can be further strengthened through heat treatment. IN718 is also known for its excellent weldability, which allows for the fabrication of complex components.
